Warehouse workers provide crucial boost for the biggest names in pop

I might not be your classic Ed Sheeran fan but with two growing children, I’ve spent more than my fair share of time listening to “Shivers” and “Castle on the Hill”.

But not as much as warehouse workers have…

As though we needed another reason to admire the flourishing UK warehouse industry, a new financial report has just found pop stars like Sheeran and Dua Lipa have warehouse workers to thank for a significant chunk of their royalties!

While popstars sadly (though unsurprisingly) experienced a 29% decline in royalties from the live music sector last year, they gained a record 113.8% increase in revenues collected from songs played in industrial facilities.

Workers’ background music on repeat amounted to some £18.1m generated for 160,000 songwriters.

And research shows that employees in industrial spaces like ours find music motivational, so everybody’s winning.

(Though apparently it was actually “Bad Habits” by Ed Sheeran that attracted the most ears, so maybe I should add that one to our playlist!)

You can read more about the power of music and the boom in warehouse employment here.
